Layton Tapped as Manager of Performing Arts Center
(Bastrop) – Bastrop ISD has named Jacob Layton as the new Manager of the Jerry Fay Wilhelm Center for the Performing Arts (PAC). Layton brings five years of experience in theater and technical direction to the District.
Prior to BISD, Layton served as the Technical Director for McKinney Boyd High School in McKinney ISD and as Technical Director and Auditorium Manager in Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD. Layton’s experience also includes a two-year term as a graduate assistant at Texas A&M-Commerce. As a lecturer and teaching assistant, his focus was on design, lighting, improvisation, theatre history, and puppetry.
“My goal is to make the PAC an artistic hub for our region of Central Texas,” said Layton. “I want us to provide as many unique performances and educational opportunities as possible and establish a strong presence in entertainment, outreach and philanthropy. I want the PAC to follow the amazing trajectory Bastrop ISD has already established.”
With bachelor’s and master’s degrees in theater from Texas A&M-Commerce, Layton brings both an academic background and real-world experience to his role as manager of the Bastrop ISD PAC. He has directed numerous productions including The Three Musketeers, The Foreigner, and Lend Me A Tenor. Other productions where he has served in a lead role in lighting or set design include Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid, and Complete Works of William Shakespeare. His research interests include the technical aspects of theater such as lighting, set design, and web design, in addition to acting, improvisation, and directing.
“We are excited to have Jacob fill this crucial role in our District. I am confident he will make a significant impact on improving the experience and abilities of our students and will work diligently to create outstanding cultural experiences for our whole community,” says BISD Director of Fine Arts, Chico Portillo.
