Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources

Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources

For students interested in a career in Agriculture Food and Natural Resources the possibilities for employment and success are endless. Feeding a nation and even the world would provide a variety of job opportunities, but today’s agriculture goes way beyond just farming and ranching.  Students that go on to a career in Agriculture could find themselves creating new fuel alternatives, designing golf courses or curing diseases.  Bastrop ISD provides students the opportunities to follow pathways in Animal Science and Veterinary medicine, Agricultural Mechanics and Horticulture, Floriculture and Landscaping design.  Students entering these pathways have the opportunity to become certified in industry recognized certifications and receive college credit through articulation agreements with Austin Community College.  Students that take courses in the Agriculture Food & Natural Resources cluster have the opportunity to be a member of the largest secondary student organization in the country, the FFA. Members in the FFA have many opportunities to develop leadership skills on a local, district, area, state and national level, compete in Leadership and career events and participate in Supervised Agriculture Experience Programs which includes livestock shows.

The Animal Systems Pathway introduces students to wide range of opportunities working with animals and animal related fields including production, marketing and Veterinary Medicine. Students in this pathway have the opportunity to become a Certified Veterinary Assistant through the Texas Veterinary Medical Association. This pathway is available at Bastrop High School and Cedar Creek High School.
