Bilingual and ESL Programs Overview

Bilingual Education:

Bilingual education is offered to students in grades Prekindergarten through 6th grade at the following campuses: Bluebonnet Elementary, Cedar Creek Elementary, Emile Elementary, Lost Pines Elementary, Red Rock Elementary, Bastrop Intermediate, and Cedar Creek Intermediate.

 

Transitional Bilingual /Early Exit Model:

The district shall implement this model in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 6th. Instruction in the four content areas shall be delivered based on the collective linguistic needs of the students as determined by TELPAS, STAAR, and district and common based assessments. Instruction for language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies may be delivered in both English and Spanish.

 

ESL (English as a Second Language)Education:

ESL education is offered across the district in all grade levels, Prekindergarten through 12th grade.

 

ESL Content-based Program (Elementary and Intermediate Level)

An ESL content-based program model shall be implemented that serves only students identified as English Language Learners in grades Prekindergarten through 6th grade. This model integrates ESL instruction with subject matter content as an avenue to learn all academic subjects.

 

ESL Pull-Out  Program (Middle and High School Level)

An ESL pull-out program model shall be implemented that serves only students identified as English Language Learners in grades 7th through 12th grade. This model requires ESL instruction in Language Arts/English classrooms only.
