Helping Hands Mentor Program

For a young person who is living through a particularly challenging time, a stable adult in their lives can be invaluable. Bastrop ISD is committed to creating and sustaining meaningful and potentially long-lasting relationships between caring adults and youth with the Mentor Program.

Who can be a Mentor?
Any person dedicated to spend the time it takes to make a positive difference in the life of a child is eligible.
 
Step 1: Complete the Mentor Application

Please note, a copy of a valid government issued photo identification card must be attached with the application. Return the completed application to BISD Community Services, 906 Farm Street, Bastrop, Texas 78602. Once your application have been reviewed and your background check has been approved, you will be contacted to begin the next step. 
Step 2: Attend a Mentor Orientation
This is a one hour mentor orientation that will help guide you in becoming a successful mentor. You will be given procedures to follow, tips for working with students, recommended mentor/mentee activities and more. You will receive an email with more information regarding attending an orientation after your application has been approved. Mentor orientations will be held monthly.

Step 3: Receive a call from a Mentor Coordinator 
The Mentor Coordinator at the campus you chose will be matching your profile with a student that has been approved to have a mentor. Once a match has been made, you will receive a call to meet your mentee and tour the designated campus.

Step 4: Enjoy Being a Mentor
