Child Nutrition

Our Mission
The mission of Bastrop ISD Child Nutrition is to support student success by providing access to nutritious, high-quality meals in a welcoming environment. We are committed to serving meals that fuel learning, promote healthy choices, and support the well-being of every student we serve.
Bastrop ISD Child Nutrition – Proudly Self-Operating
Bastrop ISD Child Nutrition is proud to be a self-operating school nutrition program. This allows us to make local decisions that directly benefit our students, staff, campuses, and community.
Through self-operation, we are focused on enhancing the student dining experience by increasing freshness, improving food quality, expanding menu options, supporting scratch cooking, and investing in our people and programs.
Our team works collaboratively to create menus that are nutritious, student-focused, and reflective of the diverse tastes of our school community.
Free Meals for All Students
All Bastrop ISD campuses participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).
Because of CEP, all students receive breakfast, lunch, and supper at no cost, regardless of household income.
Through CEP, Bastrop ISD is able to provide nutritious meals to every student while reducing barriers to access and supporting student success both inside and outside the classroom.
Our Commitment to Quality
Bastrop ISD Child Nutrition participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), a federally assisted meal program that provides nutritious meals to students each school day.
We follow all USDA and Texas Department of Agriculture guidelines to ensure students have access to balanced, high-quality meals that support learning, growth, and overall well-being.
Our menus feature:
- Whole grain-rich products
- Low-fat and fat-free milk
- Fresh fruits and vegetables
- Lean proteins
- Scratch-prepared menu items
- Student favorites
- Seasonal and locally sourced items when available
Every reimbursable meal includes:
- Fruits
- Vegetables
- Grains
- Meat or meat alternates
- Milk
Our team is committed to serving meals that are nutritious, appealing, and prepared with care while encouraging healthy habits that support lifelong wellness. Through thoughtful menu planning and student-centered meal programs, we strive to create a positive dining experience for every student.
Supporting Students, Schools, and Our Community
Each day, the Bastrop ISD Child Nutrition Department serves more than 14,000 meals to students across the district.
Supporting this work is a dedicated team of kitchen managers, food service professionals, and administrative staff who are committed to providing exceptional service and nutritious meals to our students every day.
School meals do more than nourish students. Participation in school meal programs helps support student achievement, strengthen school communities, and ensure every child has access to healthy meals throughout the school day.
We are proud to support student success by providing nutritious meals that help students learn,
grow, and thrive.
