Why Families Are Choosing Virtual Learning
Families today are looking for something different—more flexibility, more ownership, and options that fit their student’s unique needs.
At Bastrop ISD, we’re listening.
The Virtual Learning Academy was created to:
- Support students who thrive in independent learning environments
- Provide a public school option for homeschool families
- Welcome students currently enrolled in online programs outside of BISD
- Offer flexibility without sacrificing quality or support
This is not just an online school—it’s a thoughtfully designed program built for student success.
How the Virtual Academy Works

Flexible—but structured. Independent—but supported.
- Asynchronous learning: Students complete work on their own schedule
- Weekly pacing: Clear expectations and deadlines (not self-paced)
- Certified teachers: Regular check-ins, support, and progress monitoring
- District-approved curriculum: Rigorous and aligned with state standards
- In-person requirements: STAAR testing and academic check-ins
Students are never on their own—they are supported every step of the way.
Choose the Option That Fits Your Family
Fully Virtual (Available to All Students)
- 100% online learning
- Flexible daily schedule
- Open to both in-district and out-of-district students
Hybrid Option (Available only to those who live within BISD boundaries)

- Participate in extracurriculars at your zoned campus:
- Athletics
- Band, Choir, Dance, Theatre
This option allows students to stay connected while enjoying the flexibility of virtual learning.
