The BootUp 1:1 Technology Initiative is a secondary schools program that is designed to provide access to technology for all students to ensure equity of digital learning experience, high-quality instructional materials, and supplemental resources to support instruction. In the Bastrop ISD BootUp 1:1 Technology Initiative, every student in grades 6-12 will have a district chromebook issued to them to use at both school and home. Pre-K - 5th grade students will not be required to have an assigned device to take home and will instead use technology within the classroom on their campus. Having their own device allows students the opportunity to engage with their teacher and other learners or experts. Students will develop experiences using multimedia resources, software and online tools within real-world contexts for learning.

As a district, we understand that learning opportunities are continuing to increase with technology.  In alignment with BISD Teaching and Learning Priority, this plan will enforce parameters to develop and implement comprehensive teaching and learning practices that leverage technology to empower the learning environment. In addition, it will support the promotion of collaborative and adaptable learning environments to give our students opportunities to excel and take risks in their learning. This initiative will also support the district's strategic priority for student success by helping students develop systems and habits that support student ownership of their academic achievement.

Students will use the district-issued Chromebook to access high-quality instructional materials. Additionally, to ensure the fidelity and quality of experience for all students, it is important that students use a device managed by the district.

The BISD Protection Plan is available $25 for the year for the first child and $15 for each additional child in a household. This plan provides coverage for accidental damage, loss, or theft of a Chromebook. To sign-up and make a payment, click here.

If no damages, loss, or theft claims are made against the Bastrop Protection Plan, the fees paid for the 2023-2024 school year will be carried over to the 2024-2025 school year.

In Bastrop ISD, we are defining access to technology tools as part of our educational program, which includes the ability to complete work and assignments at home. Students may be able to store their device at school, but the intent is for students to have use at school and at home. For exceptions to this policy, please reach out to your campus admin.

All students are able to use their laptop at school and at home during the week and on weekends. To ensure compatibility, and because many software applications and documents created by students will be saved on their district device, BISD encourages the primary use of the district-issued Chromebook at school and home.

Yes. The students will receive a device early in the school year and will maintain this device throughout the academic year.  Students will take devices home every day, on weekends, and during non-school days. Students will return devices to school before summer break.

The most important support is making sure care is given to the device at all times by the students and the device is always charged.

When moving to another Bastrop ISD campus during the school year, your child will keep their device. If your child is leaving Bastrop ISD, please return the device to your campus during the withdrawal process.

Any damage, loss, or theft must be reported to the campus administration immediately. The campus may issue a replacement or loaner device depending on availability of local supply. Absolutely.  The devices are all connected to the district’s content filtering application.  This software is active at all times, including while the device is in use at school, home, and anywhere that has wireless Internet access.  Improper use of the laptop and/or technology, which is outlined in the Acceptable Use Policy, will result in disciplinary action as determined by the district’s Code of Student Conduct.
