Visual Arts Programs in Bastrop ISD

Bastrop ISD offers a dynamic and inclusive visual arts program for students in grades K–12, encouraging creativity, technical development, and cultural appreciation. Through hands-on learning and exploration, students are guided to grow as artists, from foundational skills in elementary school to advanced specialization in high school.

In elementary school, students begin their artistic journey by exploring basic art elements, creative expression, and cultural traditions. Middle school students build on these skills, learning more advanced techniques and gaining exposure to different art forms. In high school, students have the opportunity to specialize in drawing, ceramics, photography, and more, preparing for college or careers in the arts. The program also encourages community engagement, with students participating in local and regional art shows, competitions, and collaborative projects that foster pride and artistic expression.

Curriculum and Educational Excellence

The visual arts curriculum in Bastrop ISD is aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), providing students with a comprehensive and sequential art education. Across all grade levels, students develop:

  • Artistic Literacy: Understanding of art concepts, media, and vocabulary
  • Creative Confidence: Opportunities for self-expression and imaginative thinking
  • Cultural Awareness: Exposure to diverse artists and global art traditions
  • College and Career Readiness: Portfolio development, critique skills, and real-world experience

Whether a student is picking up a paintbrush for the first time or preparing a portfolio for college admission, Bastrop ISD’s art program inspires lifelong appreciation and engagement with the visual arts.
