Hello and welcome to 3rd grade! My name is Mrs. Higgs and this is my sixth year at Bluebonnet. In my class your child will be challenged to grow this year in reading, writing skills, math, science, as well as social studies. My goal is to get your kids working hard in a way that will inspire them and get them excited about learning! I am here for whatever you need and I am so excited to get to know and teach your child!
Take home binder:
Your child will bring home a take-home binder everyday. In this folder you will find: any flyers or important information that is needed to be given to you, their reading and math fact log that sould be filled out every weekday night, and homework, if there is any. Please look in this binder every night, but most information will be given on Thursdays. The take home binder needs to be returned everyday.
This year, I will be using Class Dojo for our classroom management tool. Class Dojo is a web based program that allows teachers to track student behaviors easily and efficiently. The program is based on points, and students can be given positive points for things like being on task, being respectful, participating, or working hard.
You child's daily homework is to read nightly for at least 20 minutes and to practice their multiplication facts for at least 5 minutes. Occassionally, I will send home a reading assignment and a math assignment to be completed for the week. This will not happen every week so it is important that these assignments get done when they do have them. You will know they when they have extra homework because it will be found in their take home folder and I will send out a message as a reminder. If you need some creative ideas on how to practice their math facts, please reach out to me and I will help you out! They will also have a multiplication fact sheet in their binder they can use to practice.
Grades will be updated regularly in Family Access, so be sure to ask if you have any questions. You may reach me the fastest through email ( firstname.lastname@example.org) or you may call me or the school to set up an appointment to visit with me in person during my conference hours.
Lastly, please join our awesome Parent Teacher Association! See the front office for details :)
