Hello and welcome to 3rd grade! My name is Mrs. Higgs and this is my fourth year at Bluebonnet.  In my class your child will be challenged to grow this year in reading, writing skills, math, science, as well as social studies. My goal is to get your kids working hard in a way that will inspire them and get them excited about learning! I am here for whatever you need and I am so excited to get to know and teach your child!

    Take home folder:
Your child will bring home a take-home binder everyday. In this folder you will find: any flyers or important information that is needed to be given to you, our weekly newsletter, your child's daily homework, and the student planner where you will sign for their required reading minutes.  Please look in this folder every night, but most information will be given on Thursdays. The take home binder needs to be returned everyday.

    Class Dojo:
This year, I will be using Class Dojo for our classroom management tool. Class Dojo is a web based program that allows teachers to track student behaviors easily and efficiently. The program is based on points, and students can be given positive points for things like being on task, being respectful, participating, or working hard. We have already sent home a handout that contains your child’s unique access code. If you have not done so already, please make sure that you sign up, so that you can start receiving updates. On the site, you will be able to see how many points your child has, which positive behaviors were noted, pictures of them learning, and what we're learning.  You will als0 be able to send me messages with any questions or concerns.

    Homework:
A homework packet will be sent home every Thursday that will be due the following Thursday.  This will give your child some flexibility during the school week by allowing them to work on assignments at his or her own pace. Please actively monitor your child's progress to avoid the last minute cramming on Wednesday night.  Please notify us immediately if your child is stressed about homework or spending an excessive amount of time on homework. The intention behind assigning homework is to review classroom learning in a meaningful way to enhance the likelihood that students will retain and apply it in creative ways in the future.  Tears and stress will only hinder this goal.

    Grades:
Grades will be updated regularly in Family Access, so be sure to ask if you have any questions. You may reach me the fastest through email ( ahiggs@bisdtx.org) or you may call me or the school to set up an appointment to visit with me in person during my conference hours.

Lastly, please join our awesome Parent Teacher Association! See the front office for details :)
