• I am currently the College and Career Readiness teacher at BMS. I have been teaching at BMS since 1996. I have a Bachelor's of Science degree from Texas A&M in Agricultural Economics. I went back to school to get my teaching certification in Exercise and Sports Science at East Carolina University while my husband was in the US Marine Corps and we were stationed in North Carolina. My husband is also a teacher at BMS, he teaches Digital Communications for the 21st Century.  We have two boys that grew up here in Bastrop and went to school in the BISD schools. They both went to college at Texas State University. We have two grandchildren and they really are the best!!

    Course objectives:

House Bill 5 created a new graduation plan for all high school students called the Foundation Graduation Plan with Endorsements.  There are 5 endorsements at the Bastrop high schools (BHS & CCHS):
    1. Public Service

    2. Arts & Humanities

    3. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)

    4. Business & Industry and

    5. Multidisciplinary.

A student must earn one of these endorsements based on the courses they take in order to graduate.  BISD offers many pathways to earn those endorsements and in College and Career Readiness we will discover the pathways BISD has for our high school students to achieve graduation.  Along the way students will learn about their current skills and interests in addition they will discover many different possible career opportunities for their future. At the end of the course students will have created 5 personal graduation plans and have the knowledge to choose the courses they will need to take in high school to reach their goals.

    Technology:

The majority of work for this course will be done using a computer.  We expect appropriate use of all equipment and access at all times. Inappropriate actions and treatment of the computers will not be tolerated.

    Supplies:

Since the majority of the work for the class will be done on the computer there are very limited supplies students will need for class.  There will be times when students will need to listen to something online so we are requesting that students bring a set of earbuds or headphones to class.

  • The best way to contact me is using email. My school email address is cmercer@bisdtx.org. I can usually respond very quickly. If you call the school, they will have to deliver a message and then I will have to call you back when I am not teaching and this could be at the end of the school day.
