About Me

  • I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child and working together to help your child succeed!  As parents and guardians, I understand that you are the most important teachers in your child’s life and it is with that understanding that I appreciate the role that you and I each play in the partnership to your child achieving the goals set forth for him or her.

I would like to take this opportunity to give you a brief overview of myself.  I have been married to my husband Alan for 25 years and we have 3 children (Alana, Cody, and AJ).  We are also blessed with a granddaughter named Alison that is the love of our lives!  We were both born and raised in Bastrop as well as our children.  This gives us a vested interest in the success of our community and its students.

I earned my BS in Interdisciplinary Studies from LeTourneau University.  I graduated with honors from Lamar with my Masters in Educational Administration.  I am also ESL (English as a Second Language) and Special Education certified.  I am starting my 15th year of teaching experience with Bastrop ISD, five of which have been at Cedar Creek Elementary teaching third grade and the past 5 years in dyslexia.

I have very high expectations of myself as a teacher as well as of my students and I have always found that to be a formula for success!  I want this to be an enjoyable year for all of my students but also a productive, challenging and encouraging year.

I will be giving your student intervention for dyslexia. Some of the worlds’ most revered innovators, scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and entrepreneurs are dyslexic. Dyslexic learners are deeply intuitive, visual-spatial thinkers and often possess significant strengths in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

I use the Basic Language Skills, an Orton-Gillingham based curriculum.  It serves as the foundation for my program with focused instruction in phonemic awareness, letter recognition, decoding, spelling, fluency, comprehension, handwriting, vocabulary, and oral and written expression. This intensive, therapeutic program meets the Texas Dyslexia Legislation guidelines and has been proven extremely effective with dyslexic students.
