• Howdy & Welcome to Ag!

My name is Rachel Hamby, aka. Ms. Hamby, as I'm sure you've heard! This is my 3rd year here at BHS and I love being a Bear! My first year here I received the Rockstar Rookie Award for the district and I certainly couldn't have done it with out amazing students and colleagues! I currently teach Floral Design, Livestock Production, Advanced Animal Science, and Practicum in Ag.

I grew up in the greater Houston area and graduated from Klein Collins High School. While in high school I played softball until my sophomore year before giving it up due to injury. All four years of high school, though, I was active in my schools FFA chapter. During that time I raised turkeys, a steer for HLSR, and a pig for our district show. I also competed on our public relations LDE team and the vet science CDE team. My senior year of high school I served as our chapter Sentinel. I also completed our schools CVA Level I certification program and graduated as a certified veterinary assistant. Upon high school graduation I accepted a job at Boonville Animal Hospital in Bryan, TX and attended Blinn college for 2 years and received an Associate of Arts before transferring to Texas A&M University (#GIGEM).

During my time at TAMU, I was a member of Texas Aggie Cattlewomen and served as the organizations Vice President '17-'18. I graduated in December 2018 with a Bachelor's of Science in Animal Science. During this time, also, I was/still am an active member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. From 2014-2016 I was a member of the Junior Rodeo Committee and since 2016 I have been a member of the Calf Scramble- Greeters committee. Since moving to Bastrop, I have tried my best to become involved in the community by becoming a youth group leader at River Valley Church and I am currently working to start a Cattlewomen chapter within the area (Lost Pines Cattlewomen). I have also accepted a leadership role within our District FFA Association as Secretary.

My primary background is within Veterinary Medicine and I am still very passionate about this industry. I love animals, especially cattle (and my rescue pup Stella).

I am so passionate about agriculture, FFA, and my students and am looking forward to serving this community and BHS for a very long time.
