Bastrop ISD Breaks Ground on 10th Elementary School

Bastrop ISD officially broke ground Tuesday on its 10th elementary school, marking another milestone in the district's continued investment in students and families in one of the fastest-growing communities in Central Texas.

Funded through the voter-approved 2023 Bond Program, the new campus will be located in the SilverLeaf neighborhood along Highway 71 near the western edge of the Bastrop County line. The school will provide additional capacity for future growth while creating a modern learning environment designed to inspire learning and support student success for generations to come.

The groundbreaking ceremony brought together members of the Bastrop ISD Board of Trustees, district leadership, community members, and project partners to celebrate the beginning of construction.

Board President Chris Dillon reflected on the significance of the moment and the community's commitment to investing in public education. "Today is about more than turning dirt—it's about building the future," Dillon said. "Every scoop of soil represents new classrooms, new friendships, new opportunities, and thousands of those 'aha' moments students will experience throughout their academic careers. We want every student who walks through our campuses to know they belong, they matter, and they can achieve great things.”

Dillon closed by saying,  “I want to thank our community for believing in public education and supporting projects like this."

The new elementary school is the fourth new elementary campus funded and constructed within the past five years. Combined with renovations and improvements completed across every Bastrop ISD campus, the project represents the district's ongoing commitment to providing exceptional learning environments that meet the needs of its growing community. "Their future is our focus, and we are on a mission," said Dr. Kristi Lee, Bastrop ISD’s Superintendent.

Project partners praised Bastrop ISD's vision, leadership, and commitment to educational excellence.

"My relationship with Bastrop goes back more than 15 years," said Tom Oehler, Managing Principal with VLK Architects. "To see the transformation that has taken place throughout Bastrop ISD is really special. It makes us proud to be part of a strong team and a school district that continues to innovate, grow, and challenge students to become great citizens of this community."

Marty Berger, CEO of American Constructors, echoed those sentiments. "We've worked with school districts across Texas for more than 40 years, and I'm proud of what Bastrop ISD is accomplishing today. We know the difference, and this community is fortunate to have the leadership and vision of this Board of Trustees and district administration."

Construction of the new school is expected to continue throughout the next year, with the campus opening in time to serve Bastrop ISD students in the 2027-2028 school year.
