Dr. Kristi Lee Named Superintendent of Schools for Bastrop ISD

Dr. Kristi Lee

(Bastrop) – In a unanimous vote at its regular meeting Tuesday evening, the Bastrop ISD Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Kristi Lee as Superintendent of Schools. Her contract was signed during the meeting, following the mandatory 21-day waiting period after being named Lone Finalist November 18.

“We are pleased to officially welcome Dr. Lee as our next superintendent. Since joining Bastrop ISD almost a decade ago, Dr. Lee has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to student success. We are confident that her experience, integrity, and the clear vision she has outlined for the future of BISD will strengthen our schools and community for years to come,” said Ashley Mutschink, Board President.

Dr. Lee began her career in public education more than 20 years ago as a high school English teacher. She later moved into administration, serving as both an elementary principal and a high school principal in multiple districts. In 2016, she joined Bastrop ISD as the Executive Director of Communications & Community Relations, and in 2022, was promoted to Deputy Superintendent overseeing significant functions within the district including strategic planning, construction, athletics, communications, community relations, human resources, IT, and student services.

“Becoming superintendent of the Bastrop Independent School District is an incredible privilege, and I recognize the significance of this milestone—not just for me, but for the young people in our schools who are watching who leads and watching how leadership shows up for them. That is what guides me. My hope is that this historic moment sends a clear message: leadership is about service and purpose, and it’s an opportunity that is open to all if they work hard,” said Lee.

Dr. Lee holds a master’s and doctorate in educational leadership from Sam Houston State University and a bachelor’s degree in English and political science from Stephen F. Austin State University. She has been actively involved in the community since 2016 through roles with the Bastrop Education Foundation, the YMCA Board of Managers, Visit Bastrop Board of Directors, and the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, where she currently serves as Chair of Governmental Affairs and liaison to the Executive Board.
