Bastrop ISD Breaks Ground on Ninth Elementary School

October 1, 2024

(BASTROP, TX) - Bastrop ISD held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, October 1, for the District’s ninth elementary school. The new campus is located in the new Adelton subdivision in Bastrop and is set to open in August 2025.

“This is not just the construction of a building,” said School Board Vice President, Chris Dillon. “It’s the creation of a space where young minds will grow, friendships will form, and futures will be shaped.”

This new 105,000-square-foot facility is funded as part of the District’s latest bond, which was approved by Bastrop ISD voters in May 2023. The $321.5 million bond will also fund the construction of another elementary school, renovations and expansions at multiple campuses—including converting two intermediate schools into middle schools—a multipurpose facility to house BISD Police administration and district operational support, safety and security upgrades, and more.

“This marks the third new campus we’ve opened in just the past three years,” said Superintendent Barry Edwards. “Before 2022, it had been over a decade since we opened a new school in BISD—Cedar Creek High School back in 2009.”

Citizens Advisory Task Force members, Evan Moilan and Josh Coy, also provided remarks during the ceremony.

The District is currently accepting nominations to name Elementary #9, as well as the two future middle schools. To submit a nomination, visit www.bisdtx.org/NameOurSchools. Nominations close October 11. Additional information about the school will become available closer to its opening.
