Monk Joins BISD as Director of School Improvement
Kendra Monk has been named Director of School Improvement and Federal/State Programs, replacing Dr. Marisol Rocha, who became Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction in Edcouch-Elsa ISD earlier this summer. Monk began her new position July 19.
“I am excited to be part of the team at BISD!” said Monk. “My goal is to support our leaders, teachers, students, and families as they navigate through learning recovery this year.”
Monk most recently served as School Improvement Project Coordinator at the Region 13 Education Service Center, a position she had held since 2016. In that role, she worked directly with district and campus leadership teams to provide internal and external professional development and support their efforts with federal and state grants. Considered an expert in the Effective Schools Framework and in the development of comprehensive district and campus improvement plans, Monk was Region 13’s employee of the year in 2019-2020.
Prior to Region 13, she was a principal in the Elgin ISD from 2009-2016. She was also a first and fourth grade teacher in Elgin, earning teacher of the year in 2007. Monk began her career as a kindergarten teacher in 1999.
“I am excited to have Kendra as part of our team, and I am confident she will make a tremendous impact on our schools and on our students and staff,” said Dr. Laila Olivarez, Associate Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction. “She brings a unique set of skills and experiences to Bastrop ISD that will make a difference for us!”
Monk received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Azusa Pacific University, and she secured a Master of Science in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton. She has three children. Her two oldest are Bastrop High School (BHS) graduates, and her youngest son will be a senior at BHS this year.
