Board Approves 2023-24 Pay Raises for Teachers and All Staff
The Bastrop ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2023-24 budget at its June 20 regular meeting. The budget includes a 5% pay raise for teachers, librarians, nurses, and paraprofessionals. Administrators and other professional staff will see a 3% increase. The approved compensation package also includes a starting salary for new teachers of $56,000 (up from $53,000). Bus driver pay will increase to $23 per hour, and substitute pay will see a boost to $105 for non-degreed, $115 for degreed, and $125 for certified.
"Our goal each year is to present a fiscally conservative, balanced budget that prioritizes instruction and student services and that recognizes staff with competitive pay. We are proud that we were able to achieve one of the highest pay increases among our neighboring districts and the most significant pay increase we've had in recent years," said Chief Financial Officer Dina Edgar.
The District will continue to monitor any upcoming special session of the 88th Legislature in hopes that our state leaders will choose to invest in our public schools by providing the funding necessary for student success and for retention of our valued teachers and staff.
