TEA Releases 2018 Accountability Ratings
The Texas Education Agency released its 2018 ratings under the A-F accountability system for all public schools in the state. Districts received a letter grade rating A-F, and campuses received a rating of either Met Standard or Improvement Required.
Bastrop ISD was given an overall rating of C, which is Acceptable Performance. All campuses in Bastrop ISD received the rating of Met Standard, with the exception of Emile Elementary and Bastrop Intermediate. Bastrop ISD also was awarded eight academic distinctions:
- Bastrop High School and Cedar Creek High School each earned two distinctions for Academic Achievement in Science and in Social Studies.
- The Colorado River Collegiate Academy was awarded two distinctions in Top 25% for Comparative Academic Growth and Comparative Closing the Gaps.
- Cedar Creek Intermediate earned a distinction for Academic Achievement in Science.
- Mina Elementary was awarded a distinction in Postsecondary Readiness.
At the elementary, intermediate and middle school levels, the accountability rating is almost entirely determined by STAAR test performance. At the high school level, the rating is determined by a combination of end-of-course test performance, college/career/military readiness, and graduation rate. For a complete explanation of the calculation method used by the State, you can access the 2018 Accountability Manual or these Accountability Overview resources.
“In Bastrop ISD, we believe in meaningful accountability, yet we don’t believe that a single test on a single day should be the primary means of assessing a school because we are so much more than that,” said Barry Edwards, Superintendent. “We are committed, however, to investing our time, energy, talents, and expertise towards substantial improvements in every classroom this year for the benefit of all students in Bastrop ISD.”
We are starting another new school year with an eye towards educational excellence, knowing that although we have challenges to address, we are also very proud of our students and our teachers for their hard work and achievements in all areas of our district.
- The majority of BISD campuses scored at or above their projected performance when compared to campuses with similar poverty levels.
- BISD students who are English learners are increasingly making one year’s growth on the state’s language assessment called TELPAS.
- Our students are graduating at a higher rate compared to students in Region 13 and the State.
- BISD students have the opportunity to enroll in pre-Advanced Placement programming beginning in the fifth grade and have robust Advanced Placement and dual credit programs at the secondary level, which provide stringent college preparation.
- We have numerous articulated career pathways and an award-winning NJROTC program to prepare students for options other than college.
- Bastrop ISD excels in fine arts, robotics, and athletics, all of which create a well-rounded educational experience that is important for a student’s health and success.
BISD leaders, teachers, and all staff will continue to focus our efforts on educating the whole child and in strengthening our commitments to students, to parents, and to our community.
