Mary Torres named Director of Human Resources
Mary Torres has been named the Director of Human Resources for Bastrop ISD. She officially began her role with the District this past August.
“I am incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to serve as the Director of Human Resources at Bastrop ISD. My passion for supporting students and district employees is rooted in my own exceptional experience in public education. I truly believe that every employee — teachers, cafeteria workers, custodians, bus drivers, administrators, and many others—plays a vital role in student success. That’s why I’m committed to finding, supporting, and growing the dedicated individuals who make a difference in students’ lives every single day,” said Torres.
Torres joins Bastrop ISD with more than 20 years of progressive experience in K–12 education, specializing in program development, educator recruitment, and stakeholder engagement. Most recently, she served as the Assistant Director of Human Resources and TIA Lead at Hays CISD. Before that, she held the role of Human Resources Project Management Coordinator.
Earlier in her career, Torres worked as Program Director for the Texas Association of School Personnel Administrators (TASPA) and Austin ISD as the Staffing and Recruiting Coordinator. She also served as a Human Resources Training Specialist at San Marcos CISD, where she began her career as a classroom teacher.
"Mary is exactly the kind of leader who makes everyone around her better. Her experience in school district human resources is impressive on paper, but seeing her work alongside our team has been even more remarkable. She’s brought fresh perspective and proven strategies that are already strengthening our district. We are thrilled to have her on our team," said Diana Greene, Chief Human Resources Officer.
Torres attended Texas State University to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and Texas A&M Commerce for her Master of Science in Training and Development.
