Dillon Elected for BISD School Board Place 5
May 4, 2019
(Bastrop) – Chris M. Dillon will retain his seat on the Bastrop ISD Board of Trustees after a victory in the May 4, 2019 school board election. Dillon secured 55% of the vote, while challenger Amy Fariss received 45% of the vote. He will be sworn in on May 21, 2019 at the regular board meeting along with Dr. Matthew Mix and Ashley Mutschink, neither of whom drew challengers for their seats. The Honorable Chris Duggan will swear in the trustees for new three-year terms.
“I am very happy the voters saw fit to keep me on the school board because it has truly been my pleasure to serve this past year since being appointed to take Glenn Peterson’s seat,” said Dillon. “I look forward to continuing to serve, to be involved, and to make decisions that are in the best interests of our students, teachers, and the district. I appreciate the voters’ trust in me.”
Dillon is a 1990 graduate of Bastrop High School. He has a Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University School of Law, an MBA from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University), and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Baylor University.
While at St. Mary’s, Dillon completed a program of studies on Global Legal Issues at The University of Innsbruck, Austria, under the direction of his professors and The Honorable William H. Rehnquist, then Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. He also served as an appellate briefing attorney for the Seventh Court of Appeals of Texas before returning to Bastrop to open a private law practice. Dillon is a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the Bastrop County Bar Association. He and his wife Kristina live in Bastrop along with their two sons.
“On behalf of all of us here at Bastrop ISD, I want to congratulate Chris on his victory,” said Superintendent Barry Edwards. “He’s done a great job as a trustee this past year, and I feel confident he will continue to give his best in service to this district.”
