Bastrop ISD to Partner with Chamber of Commerce for Student Internships
Bastrop ISD is pleased to announce a partnership between the District and the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce to place student interns with local businesses that align to a student’s career aspirations or Career and Technical Education (CTE) program of study.
Beginning May 1, students who are currently in eleventh and twelfth grades are invited to apply for a summer internship. Students must be available for eight weeks during June and July and be expected to work 80-120 hours over the course of the eight-week internship. They also will take part in a CTE course called Career Preparation to learn soft skills that enhance their technical skills in the placement. Students will earn $15 per hour plus three high school credits for the course. Space is limited and the deadline to apply is May 20 at 5 p.m. To apply online, visit http://tinyurl.com/bisdsummer2021.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our students to build relationships with our business community and gain valuable experience, and it’s an equally exciting opportunity for local business leaders wanting to make a difference in a young person’s life,” said Amanda Brantley, Director of College, Career, and Military Readiness. “This unique partnership with the Chamber will be a catalyst for students envisioning what the future could be after graduation from Bastrop ISD.”
The District will be responsible for career preparation instruction and training throughout the internship, liability insurance, and hourly pay for the students. The local business will be responsible for high-quality internship experiences to help students learn and grow in their chosen career field.
Businesses that are Chamber of Commerce members who would like to host a BISD student intern can express their interest at http://tinyurl.com/hostsummer2021.
