Bastrop ISD has named Heather Christie as the principal of Cedar Creek Intermediate School (CCIS), one of two campuses in the District set to transition to middle schools in August 2025. Christie has served as interim principal at CCIS since the fall semester of this school year.
“Having spent the last several months on this campus as the interim principal, I’ve seen firsthand the effort of our students and staff and the desire they have to make CCIS the best it can be,” said Christie. “This is exactly where I want to be, and I’m confident that working together -- teachers, administration, parents, and students -- we will achieve great things!”
Christie’s career in education began in 1997 as an intermediate and middle school teacher in Grand Saline Independent School District (GSISD). She was named Teacher of the Year in 2001 and later served as the district’s curriculum director. Christie has had several regional and statewide leadership roles including as education specialist and coordinator of federal programs and accountability for the Region 7 Education Service Center. In addition, Christie gained valuable leadership and instructional knowledge with the Texas Education Agency as the coordinator of federal monitoring in charge of supporting campuses identified as Improvement Required under the state accountability system.
Additional district experience includes two years as district assessment coordinator for Pflugerville ISD and four years as an assistant principal, also in Pflugerville. In 2016, Christie joined the Curriculum & Instruction Department at Bastrop ISD and has helped lead the charge in curriculum, accountability, and assessment for the District.
“CCIS is in a unique and exciting moment in time as they start the process of transitioning into a middle school serving students in grades six through eight. We are excited for Ms. Christie to take the helm and anticipate great things for the students and staff who call it home!” said Superintendent Barry Edwards.
Christie holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and a master’s degree in education administration, both from Tarleton State University. She is superintendent certified and is scheduled to complete her doctorate in educational leadership from Texas Tech University in the coming months.
She and her husband, Mark, make their home in Bastrop. They have three grown children and are the proud grandparents of one grandson they like to spoil.
