Thomas Named Director of Operations
Joshua Thomas has been named Director of Operations for Bastrop ISD. This role oversees the district’s maintenance, grounds, and custodial services, as well as provides guidance for outsourced partners in transportation and food service. Thomas will begin his new position in the coming weeks.
“As a Bastrop High School Alumni, I’m truly honored to return to the district in this capacity. This community has played a significant role in shaping who I am today, so I’m excited to now contribute to its future. I’m committed to supporting our campuses by fostering environments where students and staff can feel safe, supported, and proud. Together, we’ll work to ensure our operations reflect the high standards and values of this district,” said Thomas.
Thomas, a Bastrop High School graduate, comes to us with a wealth of experience in maintenance supervision, project leadership, public safety, and contract oversight. Formerly, he was Park Superintendent with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), serving at Colorado Bend State Park. Thomas has also held key roles within TPWD at Goliad and Buescher state parks including Assistant Park/Historic Site Superintendent, Manager, and Program Specialist. Prior to his career with Texas Parks and Wildlife, Josh was a supervisor at The Meadows Center for Water & The Environment. There he was responsible for park and trail maintenance, onboarding, educational programs, and more.
Most recently, Thomas worked on behalf of veterans in education and outreach at the Texas Veterans Commission. His passion for service began during his time in the United States Marine Corps. From 2012-2017, he served as a Communications Electronics Technician responsible for a wide variety of communications equipment, inventory, and inspection. In addition to performance reviews and leadership of junior Marines, Thomas also trained Special Operations School students and officers in the Global Broadcast System.
“I am excited to welcome Josh as our new Director of Operations. His skillset and diverse background make him the top candidate to lead our operations team. I am confident that his energy and leadership will drive positive change and help us provide the best possible learning environment for our students and staff,” said Barry Edwards, Bastrop ISD Superintendent.
Thomas holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas State University. He and his wife Adrianna, College Access Specialist at Cedar Creek High School, live in Bastrop and have one daughter.
