Partners in Education

  • The Partners in Education Program (PIE) was developed and implemented to enhance the educational experience of our students and to increase opportunities for success. PIE unifies all members of our community around one central theme: the success of our children. Whether you are an individual, a member of a civic organization, small or large business, faith-based group, a non-profit organization, state or local governmental agency or a parent, you have something to offer and contribute to one of the three programs that exist under the PIE umbrella. If you have questions about any of these programs, please contact Community Engagement Coordinator April Lewandowski at (512) 772-7177 or alewandowski@bisdtx.org.

    Mentor Program

For a young person who is living through a particularly challenging time, a stable adult in their lives can be invaluable. Bastrop ISD is committed to creating and sustaining meaningful and potentially long-lasting relationships between caring adults and youth with our Mentor Program. Any person dedicated to spending the time it takes to make a positive difference in the life of a child is eligible to be a mentor. All you need to do is submit an application (along with a copy of a valid government-issued photo identification card). Once a background check is complete, you will be invited to a one-hour mentor orientation to guide you in becoming a successful mentor, including procedures, tips for working with students, recommended activities and more. We accept applications for mentors all year long, and mentor orientations are held monthly. Our Mentor Coordinator at the campus you select will match you with a student who has been approved to have a mentor. Once a match has been made, you will receive a call to meet your mentee and tour the designated campus. Contact Community Engagement Coordinator April Lewandowski at (512) 772-7177 today to become a Bastrop ISD mentor.

    Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS)

We wouldn't be as successful as we are without the support and dedication of our volunteers. There are numerous ways to volunteer, including supervising students as they arrive and depart the school grounds and during recess, planning or accompanying teachers and students on field trips, tutoring, decorating classrooms, helping plant a school garden, and organizing fundraising events. There are even ways to volunteer that don't require being on the campus such a taking care of the classroom pets or plants during vacations, collecting materials for a classroom project, or making costumes, scenery or props.

We encourage you to join your local PTA or booster club to find out all the ways you can help your campus be its best. No special skills required. Just a heart for students and teachers! Simply submit a volunteer application. After the required background check, you will be ready to serve your local campus or the district.

Beginning May 2010 the Texas Department of Public Safety sent to school districts a new form that must be signed by each volunteer applicant before they can conduct a background check. This form gives the district permission to conduct a name and date of birth search only. The district is not requiring volunteer applicants to be fingerprinted. Bastrop ISD is not allowed to discuss any information obtained using the name search method, therefore we are offering applicants the opportunity to have a fingerprint search performed to clear any misidentification based on the name search. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause and promise to incorporate this mandate as seamlessly as possible.

     Community Partnership Program

The Community Partners Program provides an opportunity for businesses, civic organizations, community action groups, governmental agencies and non-profit organizations to play an active role in the growth and development of our school district. As a Partner, each company or organization can work directly with children and teachers within Bastrop ISD to enrich the experiences of Bastrop students and provide leadership in the formation and growth of our educational programs. Sponsorship may come in the form of sharing knowledge and expertise with students and staff, investment of time, and/or financial contributions. How a business or organization becomes involved with BISD can be based upon size and nature of the business or organization, the time and resources available to contribute, and the mutual goals of the district and community partner.

There are numerous benefits to being a Bastrop ISD Community Partner:

    • Positive relationships with the community and BISD
    • Community awareness of their mission
    • Motivated workforce and a potentially larger pool of future employees and customers
    • Recognition in Partners of Education materials and advocacy
