Morris Becomes Director of Student Services
Bastrop ISD has selected Dr. Janel Morris as the Director of Student Services. She began her official duties November 1. Most recently, Morris served as director of English language arts for Pawnee Independent School District (22-23).
“I am proud to be joining the Bastrop Independent School District and look forward to getting to know my fellow educators and supporting them in their efforts to make the District the best it can be,” said Morris.
Dr. Morris’ career in education began in 2009 as an intermediate school teacher in La Vega. She also taught at the high school level in both Belton and Granbury. Administrative roles include stints as principal of Morgan ISD (21-22), assistant principal and later principal at Ruby Young Academy, a 3rd through 8th grade STEAM school in DeSoto ISD, and assistant principal in Keller ISD (17-18).
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Morris to Bastrop ISD. We know her dedication and commitment to students will be of great benefit to our school district,” said Penné Liefer, Associate Superintendent of Administrative Services and Human Resources.
Morris holds a doctorate in education and a master’s in reading and literacy, both from Walden University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Point Loma Nazarene University. Her work on the physics instructional content for TEKS Resource System is set to be published next year.
