Marc Telles named Director of Fine Arts
(BASTROP, TX) - Marc Telles has been named Director of Fine Arts for Bastrop ISD. This role oversees the District’s fine arts programs, and the operations of the District’s performing arts center, Jerry Fay Wilhelm Center for the Performing Arts. He will begin his new role in late April.
“I am excited to begin my journey as the Director of Fine Arts for Bastrop ISD and to have the privilege of serving our students, teachers, and the entire community. Fine Arts programs are not just an enrichment of education; they are a vital component in developing well-rounded individuals who are creative, dedicated, and critical thinkers. I look forward to collaborating with our talented educators and supporting our students in discovering and honing their creative potential,” said Telles. “Together, we will build on the existing strengths of the fine arts program and work toward expanding its reach, impact, and opportunities. I'm eager to help move Bastrop ISD forward, embracing fine arts's power to enrich students' educational experiences!”
Telles comes to Bastrop ISD from Seguin ISD where he currently serves as the Director of Fine Arts and Bands, and oversees K-12th grade visual and performing arts programs district-wide. With over 22 years of experience, he has also served as a band director in Pflugerville ISD, Harlingen CISD, and Northside ISD.
Telles has conducted concert ensembles that have performed in Washington D.C., New York City, the National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana, and throughout Texas. He has had consistent UIL Sweepstakes awards at four high schools at the varsity, non-varsity, and sub-non-varsity levels. Telles served as a guest conductor for the Austin Symphonic Band in 2020 and a guest jazz conductor for the Harlingen High School Honors Jazz Ensemble at the prestigious Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, Illinois, in 2015.
Telles has served as an associate director and director for marching bands that have achieved numerous first-place awards, 22 UIL first-division awards, consistent UIL Area finals appearances, and have performed at the UIL State Marching Band Championships.
Telles has been the contest host for the UIL Percussion State Solo & Ensemble Contest and the UIL State Mariachi Festival. He has presented workshops at the TMEA, TFAA, and TBA conferences. He is an active clinician and adjudicator for concert festivals, UIL concert and sight-reading contests, honor band hearings, and marching contests throughout Texas.
“Marc’s extensive background and passion for the arts will undoubtedly elevate the district’s fine arts programs, and we are thrilled to welcome him to Bastrop ISD,” said Jennifer Eberly, Chief Academic Officer. "His leadership will inspire both students and educators to reach new heights of creativity and excellence."
Telles attended the University of North Texas where he earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership. He obtained a Bachelor of Music degree from Texas State University.
Telles is a member of the Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA), Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Texas Fine Arts Administrators (TFAA), Visual Arts Administrators of Texas, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, and Phi Beta Mu International Bandmaster Fraternity. His contributions to these organizations included serving as a TBA representative, an elected TMAA CSAPP member, a UIL Music Advisory Committee member, the TMEA All-State Recorded Auditions Chair, and a public relations committee member of Phi Beta Mu.
