Hi, my name is Jackie Heger, and I'm very excited to be a virtual 3rd grade ELAR teacher this year at Cedar Creek Elementary. I have a Bachelor's degree in University Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington and became a certified EC-6 teacher through the iTeach Texas Alternative Certification Program. I am also certified in ESL instruction. This is my fourth year teaching and I am happy to be part of an incredible school community, where we are all proud to be EAGLES! I am originally from Columbus, a small town about 45 minutes East of Bastrop, where my family lives. I currently reside in Bastrop, with my brother. When I am not in a classroom, embracing the minds of students, I am in my kitchen baking up a storm. I also love spending time with my family and friends, crafting and traveling. This year we will be learning testing strategies that will guide your child to success. Learning comprehension strategies and building what they learned in 2nd grade, are key to understanding what your child is reading. These strategies will also help them when testing. How a character changes, synonyms & antonyms, author's purpose, using context clues, summary, central idea and annotation are just a few areas we will learn along with many others. We will also concentrate on Writing and Phonics. Going through the writing process of prepping, planning, drafting, editing & revision, and a published piece will be our focus of writing this year. The best way to reach me is by contacting the school, my email or through School Status. If you have a concern about your child's progress, please be in touch. I am excited to teach your child this year and look forward to getting to know your family.-Ms. Heger
