Four BISD Schools Recognized by Baylor University's Texas Hunger Initiative

March 8, 2019

Superintendent Barry Edwards welcomed representatives from Baylor University's Texas Hunger Initiative to Bastrop ISD in celebration of National School Breakfast Week. They visited four campuses to recognize them for their outstanding success increasing the number of children participating in school breakfast.

Katie Nye, the Regional Director of the Texas Hunger Initiative, presented each principal with a framed certificate and thanked them for their efforts and their teachers' efforts in implementing breakfast in the classroom. Red Rock Elementary, Cedar Creek Elementary, Lost Pines Elementary, and Bastrop Intermediate all began a "breakfast in the classroom" initiative this school year. The results have been outstanding! Not only are more children eating a nutritious breakfast, but principals have noticed a smoother, more positive start to the school day and a decrease in tardies.

Also part of the School Breakfast Week celebration was a presentation of "Thank You" baskets to cafeteria staff at Bastrop Intermediate School. Student Council members Emma Griesenbeck and Laney Coy presented gifts to the staff to show their appreciation on behalf of the student body, not only for breakfast in the classroom but also for working so hard on behalf of everyone at BIS.
