Bastrop ISD Child Nutrition

  • We’re excited to announce that as of the 2024–2025 school year, Bastrop ISD’s Child Nutrition Department is officially self-operating! This change allows us to bring more freshness, flavor, and creativity to our school meals while keeping nutrition and student well-being at the center of everything we do.

    Meet Our Team

    • Our dedicated Child Nutrition team includes:
    • Director of Child Nutrition
    • District Dietitian
    • Executive Chef
    • Catering Chef
    • Over 100 passionate school-based team members

Together, we prepare and serve more than 13,000 meals each day to students and staff across the district.

Our Commitment to Quality

  • We follow all USDA and Texas Department of Agriculture guidelines to make sure every student has access to a high-quality, well-balanced meal at breakfast, lunch, and beyond.
    Our menus feature:

    • Whole grain-rich products
    • Low-fat and fat-free milk
    • 100% fruit juice
    • Fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP)

  • Bastrop ISD participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)—a federally assisted meal program operating in public and nonprofit private schools.
    Through NSLP, we:

    • Serve meals that meet strict federal nutrition standards for calories, sodium, saturated fat, and portion sizes.

    • Ensure every meal includes five key components:

      1. Fruits
      2. Vegetables
      3. Grains (whole grain-rich)
      4. Meat or meat alternates
      5. Milk
    • Offer students the ability to choose from a variety of fruits and vegetables daily.

    • Promote lifelong healthy eating habits by introducing fresh, seasonal produce and scratch-made recipes.

Our participation in NSLP also provides important funding that supports school nutrition programs, equipment upgrades, and training for our staff.

Free Meals for All Students

  • All Bastrop ISD campuses will operate the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) for the 2025–2026 school year. This means every student receives breakfast and lunch at no cost, regardless of family income.

Parents of students in grades PK–12 will not complete the standard free lunch application. Instead, you’ll fill out a short socioeconomic form that helps the district access valuable resources for students. If you need a copy for applications or testing discounts, contact your child’s campus.

Smart Snacks in Schools

  • In addition to school meals, many of our campuses offer Smart Snack-approved items for purchase. These snacks meet USDA’s Smart Snacks in School nutrition standards, which limit calories, sodium, sugar, and fat while promoting whole grains, fruits, dairy, and protein-rich foods. This ensures that all food sold on campus during the school day supports healthy eating habits.

    • Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) – Supper Program at all campuses
