Bilingual Education (Grades PreKindergarten to 6):
The goal of bilingual education in Bastrop ISD is for English learners to become English proficient. Competency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English is attained through the development of literacy and academic skills in the primary language (Spanish) and English. Students receive bilingual instruction with the goal of reclassification as English proficient between two and five years
Transitional Bilingual/Early Exit Model:
The district shall implement this model in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 6th. Instruction in the four content areas shall be delivered based on the collective linguistic needs of the students as determined by TELPAS, STAAR, and district and common based assessments. Instruction for language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies may be delivered in both English and Spanish.
English as a Second Language (Grades PreKindergarten to 12):
The goal of English as a Second Language (ESL) education in Bastrop ISD is for English learners to become English proficient. Competency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English is attained through the development of literacy and academic skills in English through sheltered instructional methods. Bastrop ISD offers ESL content-based instruction for English Learners in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 6. ESL Pull-out instruction is offered for English Learners in grades 7 through 12.
