VISION
The Multilingual Department ensures that every emergent bilingual student has equitable access to a culturally responsive education that fosters biliteracy, high academic achievement and success in a multicultural society.
MISSION
Bastrop ISD will provide academically rigorous and culturally relevant instruction that accepts, embraces, and respects cultural and linguistic diversity, and prepares all students to be effective communicators with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a diverse global community. Our goal for multilingual learners is biliteracy.

El Departamento Multilingüe asegura que cada estudiante bilingüe emergente tenga un acceso equitativo a una educación culturalmente receptiva que fomente la alfabetización bilingüe, un alto rendimiento académico y el éxito en una sociedad multicultural.

Bastrop ISD proporcionará instrucción académicamente rigurosa y culturalmente relevante que acepta, abarca y respeta la diversidad cultural y lingüística, y prepara a todos los estudiantes para ser comunicadores eficaces con las habilidades y conocimientos necesarios para tener éxito en una comunidad global diversa. Promoting Biliteracy, Bilingualism and Biculturalism

BISD currently implements two bilingual program models: Dual Language Immersion One Way and Early Exit Transitional at all 8 of the district elementaries. The program model shift from early exit to a DL immersion one way will take place over a span of 5 years beginning in grades Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and 1st grade. Each subsequent year, beginning in 2024-2025, the district will add one grade level at a time to the dual language immersion one way program model with the ultimate goal of students in grades 2nd-5th receiving 50% of instruction in Spanish and English.
BISD actualmente implementa dos modelos de programas bilingües: Inmersión en dos idiomas en un solo sentido y salida temprana de transición en las 8 escuelas primarias del distrito. El cambio de modelo de programa de salida temprana a una inmersión de doble idioma de una manera se llevará a cabo en un lapso de 5 años a partir de los grados Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten y 1er grado. Cada año subsiguiente, comenzando en 2024-2025, el distrito agregará un nivel de grado a la vez al modelo de programa de inmersión dual de un solo sentido con el objetivo final de que los estudiantes en los grados 2º-5º reciban el 50% de la instrucción en español e inglés.
Bilingual Program Goals
- Provide the educational environment and instruction that will allow all students to become bilingual, biliterate and bicultural
- Develop fluency in communication and literacy in both English and Spanish
- Increase academic achievement in all areas

Dual Language Immersion One Way
Students in the dual language immersion one way program are instructed in a biliteracy model using paired literacy (simultaneous literacy in English and Spanish) within biliteracy units that are grounded in knowledge units and foundational skills. The goal of the framework and the integrated units is for students to acquire listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in two languages across content areas.
Early Exit Transitional Model
Students served in the early exit transitional model will receive instruction following the language allocation plan for the program. In this program, Spanish support is provided in the core content area(s).
ESL Content Based/Pull Out Program
Students in B.I.S.D. who receive ESL services follow the district curriculum using a variety of sheltered instruction practices to help make all content comprehensible.Competency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English is attained through the development of literacy and academic skills in English through sheltered instructional methods Students at all 8 elementary campuses are provided ESL Content Based Instruction and students at middle and high schools are supported with ESL Pull Out Instruction.
