Special Diets and Food Allergies
-
Bastrop ISD follows the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) guidelines for accommodating children with special needs.
TDA permits the Child Nutrition Department to determine what accommodations are reasonable or non-reasonable, and requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Child Nutrition will not make menu modifications based on religious beliefs or personal food preferences.
Bastrop ISD does not serve any items containing peanuts or tree nuts.
Please complete the form below to request a modification for your child.
Special Diet Form & Submission
-
If your child requires a special diet due to food allergies, medical conditions, genetic disorders, or identified disabilities, a Special Diet Form must be completed by both the parent/guardian and a licensed medical professional.
- Once received, an alert message with the indicated food allergy or condition will be added to your student’s meal account.
- We recommend that an updated Special Diet Form be submitted each school year to ensure accurate accommodations.
Steps to Request a Special Diet
-
- Print and complete the Special Diet Form.
- Have the form signed by a licensed medical professional.
- Return the completed form via email to Alaih Alnahas, District Dietitian – aalnahas@bisdtx.org
- If you have any questions, please contact: Alaih Alnahas, District Dietitian – aalnahas@bisdtx.org
- The Child Nutrition Services Department will review all requests and inform the caregiver if the special diet request meets the requirements of the regulations.
Menu Modifications
-
If your child requires a special diet, you must submit a Special Diet Form, and a licensed medical professional must identify the condition. Students may qualify for a menu modification if they have:
- A life-threatening or severe food allergy
- A medical or genetic condition
- An identified disability*
Menu modifications may take up to one week to implement from the time the form is received.
*A "Person with a Disability" is defined as someone who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, has a record of such an impairment, or is regarded as having such an impairment (as defined under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008).
Lactose Intolerance
-
Bastrop ISD will provide a lactose-free milk alternative for students identified by a licensed medical professional as having lactose intolerance.
