Collection Development
-
Collection development in Bastrop ISD involves the ongoing evaluation, selection, acquisition, and deselection of library resources to meet the needs of both current and potential users. This process is supported by regular collection maintenance practices and is aligned with Board Policy EFB Local, which states, "In accordance with state guidelines and District administrative procedures, collections shall be evaluated and updated regularly based on the collections' age, relevance, diversity, and variety. The Superintendent or designee shall ensure administrative procedures are established for regular maintenance of the library collection on each campus." Standard maintenance includes the repair, replacement, and removal of materials as needed, along with scheduled inventories of the collection.
Our goal is to create an inclusive learning environment that complies with all legal standards. Bastrop ISD does not remove titles based on the background of authors, the characters, or the viewpoints expressed. We are committed to providing diverse perspectives and fostering critical thinking among our students.
Materials that no longer meet the general selection criteria for the library (including those that have become damaged or obsolete) will be systematically withdrawn/weeded from BISD libraries.
