Benefits Overview
New Hires
-
- New hires have 31 DAYS FROM THEIR ACTIVELY AT WORK DATE to enroll in benefits.
- Example: Your first active at work date is 8/2/24 you have until 9/1/24 to complete your benefits enrollment.
- Even if you do not need/want to enroll in any benefits, you are required to decline/waive coverage, and most importantly select a beneficiary for the free $10,000 term life insurance benefit BISD provides for you.
- If you do not complete your enrollment by the 31-day deadline, you will not be able to enroll in benefits until next year’s open enrollment. The only exception is a qualifying life event, see QLE FAQs below.
OPEN ENROLLMENT for CURRENT EMPLOYEES
-
- Open enrollment begins mid July and runs through mid August each year. Communication with date/time information is sent out via email and postal mail each year.
- During open enrollment you can review your current benefit selections and make changes to your health plan, dependents and other coverages.
- If you do not make any changes, you will continue to remain enrolled in your current selections, with the exception of your FSA, HSA and Sick Leave Bank elections. If you wish to remain enrolled in those benefits you have to re-enroll each year.
