History of Bastrop ISD Police Department
-
In an effort to increase safety and security options within the district, BISD took the first step to starting its own police department by submitting the required paperwork to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) July 15, 2015. In August, the Bastrop ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved Memorandums of Understanding with the City of Bastrop Police Department (BPD) and the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO). The agreements provide for dispatch services, mutual aid and shared responsibilities between the three departments.
Today, the department is headed by Police Chief Scot Bunch, one administrative assistant, one lieutenant, one sergeant, one detective, nine police officers, and one technology specialist. In addition to enforcing laws and providing a safe environment, BISD police officers serve as role models and mentors for students. Interaction with students is important, and veteran police officers bring job experience, professional training and life experiences that are beneficial to students.Bastrop ISD Police Department Chiefs:
